Gabriel Schwartzman

Schwartzman, born October 23, 1976 is a Romanian-born American Grandmaster. Originally from Bucharest, Romania he moved to Florida where he played in his first chess tournament at the age of 4, obtained the FIDE Master title when he was 12 years old, and 3 years later became an International Master. In November 1993, the FIDE Congress in Curitiba, Brazil awarded him the International Grandmaster title, making him one of the youngest Grandmasters in the world at that time at the age of 17.
In 1988 he took 2nd, behind Judit Polgár, in the World Under 12 Championship. Schwartzman won the 1996 U.S. Open at the age of 19 (youngest since Bobby Fischer) and was the winner of the Internet World Student Championship. He started the world's first interactive chess school in 1996, the Internet Chess Academy.
His FIDE rating stands at 2553 but he has not active since the year 2000. Schwartzman just disappeared from the chess scene. What happened to him? It looks like he was busy building himself a successful business career.
He holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Florida, and a Master’s in Business Administration degree from the Wharton School of Business. Schwartzman is the Vice President of Output Management at Notable Solutions. Prior to working for Notable Solutions, he was the CEO of Barr Systems. As part of Notable Solutions’ acquisition of the Barr EOM technology, Schwartzman joined Notable Solutions, together with the teams that developed, supported, and sold the product. Notable Solutions is an established global leader in secure information collection and output management solutions. He discusses his early career HERE.
